I went to Egypt! Yes, it is in AFRICA! Amazing. We are docked in Alexandria, Egypt. When we got off the ship in the morning, we first caught a shuttle that was free for the crew to go to a mall. It was so neat to be driving around Egypt… wow. But it is very different than any city I’ve seen before. The mall was interesting. We went to a Walmart type store which was fun to look at all the weird foods. The mall had an arcade, first I was sad because there was no DDR, but there was a roller coaster and bumper cars.. But then I saw the DDR machine and I was pretty thrilled. There also was a McDonalds, Starbucks, and a KFC… It’s true that America is everywhere.

After the mall we went back to the port and stopped into all the little shops right at the pier. They sell lots of neat touristy Egypt things, but also legitimate Egyptian items. We met a few of the workers and I’m sure we will see them every time.

The second day, we tried to go to the wool store (all the girls are really into knitting here). We walked into the city, and wow, it is a really dirty place. First off EVERYONE bugs you, like crazy… for taxi rides or whatever else. Everything was closed, apparently it is a holiday, I can’t remember the name but it is an important one. Apparently, so important that they were slaughtering animals in the street, gross. The smell was disgusting and well, not a pleasant sight. We went back to the ship since everything was closed. Next time I’ll hopefully get to Cairo, it is a 3 hour drive so you have to be on tour. Then I will get to see the pyramids, Sphinx, and all that cool stuff. But hey, I can say I’ve been to Africa now!

Today was a long and boring sea day… Malta tomorrow!
